What if there isn't a Circlip retaining the cam washer and spring?

Usually the spring lies beneath some sort of cam washer that defines the extent of travel of the handle.  This cam washer is normally retained with a circlip as shown in our guide on how to replace a door handle spring.  Sometimes, however, the handle might look like the one in the picture below

Here the cam washer has been retained by simply burring over the handle shaft.  There is no removable circlip.  Unfortunately this makes it extremely difficult to remove the cam washer and hence replace the spring.  We wouldn't recommend attempting to repair a handle that's been manufactured in this way.  Sorry!
